Mindfulness and Meditation

Mindfulness is the practice of increasing your awareness of the present moment. We spend so much of our lives thinking of the past or the future and not focusing on the here and now. Mindfulness is our basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are, and what we’re doing. By practicing mindfulness regularly this helps us to not be overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.

Mindful.org states, “whenever you bring awareness to what you’re directly experiencing via your senses, or to your state of mind via your thoughts and emotions, you’re being mindful. And there’s growing research showing that when you train your brain to be mindful, you’re actually remodeling the physical structure of your brain.”

Meditation also has a significant impact on the brain. The practice of meditation increases mental and physical health, will help you find more inner peace, make more meaning and purpose in your life, and increases self-awareness. Meditation is learning to sit with your mind and training it to be more open and at ease. This is a practice that when incorporated into your daily life, you will find the benefits to be extremely valuable.

Incorporating Mindfulness and Meditation into my Private Practice

I incorporate mindfulness and meditation into my therapy practice. This is a unique skillset, which can be combined with therapy or used separately as it’s own relaxation and wellness method. Throughout my years as a therapist, I became exposed to these practices through various professional trainings. I became interested in learning more as I understood the benefits mindfulness and meditation have on decreasing anxiety and improving wellness. As my passion for mindfulness and meditation grew, I decided to become certified in Mindfulness and Meditation by enrolling in a 200 hour study course, in addition to a 10 day intensive week where I practiced mindfulness techniques guided by experienced instructors. I find mindfulness and meditation to be very effective in helping to center myself personally and professionally.

I lead individual, group meditation classes, therapeutic retreats, and community events, all of which can be found on my events page.  My private therapy office also includes a separate meditation room. The integration of therapy and meditation creates for a holistic approach to finding peace and balance.

“I signed up for Jennifer's 13-week mindfulness and meditation series hoping to create some new healthy habits, but not knowing exactly what to expect. Jennifer made me feel so comfortable right away and created a safe space for practicing and sharing learnings. Jennifer taught me so many new meditation techniques that were extremely effective and relaxing, and that I found were easy to implement in my busy schedule. Jennifer's in-depth knowledge of the industry and helpful tools combined with her empathy and support of the group helped me to create many new healthy habits to help me better cope with stress. I was deeply touched by Jennifer's support and will always be grateful for this life-changing experience.” – M.F., Local Long Island Resident and series participant
